RADION'S First Album Release
The album brings together artists closely connected to RADION, whose sounds have shaped the space over the past decade.
The tracks here are variations on late night techno at itsbest. There is the bleeping paranoia of Laura van Hal’s ‘Dripping’, which seemsto turn inward on itself as it progresses. Lobster’s ‘Speed of Sorrow’ takes things closer to peak time with a swung stomper that flirts with vintage hardgroove (and features the record’s most breathtaking chord progression). And if you need just a proper heads-down banger, look no further than the collaboration between SHE/HER and Flits, whose ‘Backrooms’ has drums that pummel through you as an ascending arpeggio darts across the high-end.
These tunes are workhorses. It's two double packs of polished and crystalline contemporary techno. But there is also enough variation to keep things from feeling formulaic, whether that is the slightly druggy syncopation on Beste Hira’s ‘Longa’ or Myra’s ‘D22’, which is skeletal and sparse — minimal techno that moves with a gossamer-like nimbleness untilthe little echoes of acid come in during the second half. Ten years is a lifetime in clubland. And, as the club rightly notes, their future is uncertain. Regardless of what comes next, these tracks provide an archive of RADION at its most vibrant.
